Cranking, &c.
My thoughts precipitated by the inspiring essay from @hotdogsladies -
In this age of ours, success as a writer no longer requires that words get printed on dead trees and funneled through tightly controlled distribution channels, promoted by speaking tours and TV appearances.
Of course, when his book comes out there will be thousands of nerds, myself included, lining up the second we hear, to buy an actual copy. But whether that happens this year, or 3 years from now, or ten, the thing is that we are surrounded now by great writers who don’t actually need the heavy, rectangular, canonical operae magnae of cellulosic fiber. Your oeuvre can be fluid, serialized, and sometimes even conversational.
It’s a great time to be a writer and a reader.
